“Bye to Phi” Senior Salute: Honor Cord Presentation

May 6, 2017

In Spring 2016, two graduating seniors who served on the Chapter Executive Board—Jessica Bailey and Krystal Bailey—proposed a special event to allow Phi Eta Sigma members an opportunity to offer their reflections on what Phi Eta Sigma had meant to their academic, personal, and social lives.

The event was named “Bye to Phi,” though the creators realized that one never leaves Phi Eta Sigma because members are inducted for Life.  Still, the occasion for graduation would represent another transition for those venturing on to graduate and professional schools and/or careers for which they had prepared.

The inaugural “Bye to Phi” was held on May 9, 2016, and was a marked success.  The event included a meal, the presentation of honor cords, and congratulatory addresses by the faculty adviser and members of the Executive Board, and brief speeches by the graduating seniors.  There was never a doubt that the event would appear on the chapter’s slate of activities for Spring 2017.  May 6th was the date chosen for the special salute.

Phi Eta Sigma 2017 New Members’ Induction Ceremony

March 4, 2017

What a great day to be a Phi Eta Sigma Owl at Kennesaw State University! On Saturday, March 4, 2017, the Kennesaw State Chapter of Phi Eta Sigma successfully inducted 127 new members into the Honor Society. Along with these exceptional students, the KSU Chapter of Phi Eta Sigma recognized outstanding faculty and staff who are instrumental to a student’s success at KSU.  At the 2017 Induction Ceremony, we inducted five honorary member into the KSU Chapter: Dr. Michael Maloni, Associate Professor of Management; Dr. Linda M. Lyons, Director of Strategic Initiatives and Assistant Professor of Education; Donald Coleman, Director, Orientation Programs; and Yen Rodriguez, Assistant Director, Multicultural Student Affairs. Included in these five faculty members was our Keynote Speaker, Dr. Chris Hutt, who is the Assistant Vice-President for Academic Advising at Kennesaw State. After the Ceremony, we partook in a reception held in our Social Sciences Building where we enjoyed refreshments and fellowshipped with one another. The KSU Phi Eta Sigma chapter looks forward to working with our new members, and maintaining the values of this great organization!
